A ruling against Microsoft by the European Commission has put a stop to Windows using their operating system to force users to use IE as a default browser. From today any Windows users with IE as their default browser will be asked to select which browser they wish to use.
The Windows users will be given a choice of 12 browsers which include:
Avant
Chrome
Firefox
Flock
Green Browser
Internet Explorer
K-meleon
Maxthon
Opera
Safari
Sleipnir
Slim
This is going to be great for Windows users as IE has come into a few problems recently relating to it's security. This decision has been made as it appeared that Microsoft was abusing its market position.
Users will only see this message if they are using IE as their default browser. "Millions of European consumers will benefit from this decision by having a free choice about which web browser they use,” said Neelie Kroes, the EU's competition commissioner.
Many users are expected to worry that their computer is infected with a virus or hacked when they see this message today.
Hopefully this result will lead to more useless programs that are pre-installed on Windows becoming optional.
I am a Firefox user but have been liking Chrome recently what is your favourite browser? Do you use IE at all?
